Overview

Canadian and World Politics (CWP) is a full-colour, Canadian-authored hardcover text written for Ontario’s CPW4U course.

CWP has also attracted considerable interest in other provinces for courses in Canadian politics, global studies, world issues, and citizenship and is approved for Civics 11 in British Columbia.

CWP comprises 12 chapters that are organized into four manageable units. At 472 pages, it is long enough to cover fully the curriculum and still leave room and time for material from newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and other sources.

The Teacher's Resource provides answers to questions in the student text, as well as additional student activities and assessment rubrics.

Features

  • Colourful unit openings set the tone for each major section of the course.
  • Each chapter begins with a list of student objectives that are presented as an Agenda.
  • Interesting one- and two-page sections on Language and Politics, Art and Politics, Music and Politics, Architecture and Politics, and Sports and Politics broaden student understanding of the significance of politics in their lives.
  • Additional features include Taking a Stand, Grassroots Politics, Methods of Political Inquiry, Party Politics, and Point-Counterpoint.
  • Charts, graphs, timelines, and other visuals facilitate student understanding of concepts.
  • Small sets of comprehension questions within the text help students to validate their own learning.
  • Attractive and meaningful margin elements, such as “Sound Bite”, Press Play (notes on significant films about the political events in question), and The Web (web links), are designed to extend the main narrative without distracting the student.
