Students are provided with an overview of the entire criminal process, from police investigation to sentencing.

The book has been completely revised to take into account new developments. These include a series of new cases such as Dery and Legare in inchoate liability and new cases on negligence and officially induced error. The special part chapters on sexual assault and homicide have been re-organized and the topics of mental disorder and automatism have been combined for ease in teaching. Other new developments include the debate about the harm principle, the Court's new search and seizure and exclusion of evidence cases such as Grant and new developments with respect to wrongful convictions.
